Vintage  classics It’s  A Wonderful Life and Holiday Inn are both released on Bu-ray and DVD by Universal Pictures (UK) in time for Christmas. These festive classics also include re-mastered black and white and colour versions, making your celebrations even more technicolour. Three lucky readers now have the chance to win a copy of each film in our DVD give-away.

Regarded by most as the most loved Christmas film of all time, It’s a Wonderful Life (released 8 November) stars the unforgettable James Stewart as George Bailey and features a superb ensemble cast including Donna Reed and Lionel Barrymore.

George Bailey (Stewart) has spent his entire life giving up his big dreams for the good of his town, Bedford Falls. One Christmas Eve, he is broken and suicidal over the misplacing of an $8,000 loan and the machinations of the evil millionaire, Mr. Potter (Barrymore). His guardian angel, Clarence (Henry Travers), falls to Earth and shows him what would have become of his town, family, and friends if he had never been born. George meant so much to so many people; should he really throw it all away? Get the tissues ready for an ending sure to pull at the stiffest of heart strings.

Directed by the legendary Frank Capra, this Golden Globe® winning film was nominated for five Academy Awards®* in all the major categories and has lived on in our hearts ever since its original release in 1946.

With music by Irving Berlin, songs by Bing Crosby and dancing by Fred Astaire, Holiday Inn  is one of the most delightful and memorable musicals of all time. Crosby plays Jim Hardy, a song and dance man who leaves showbiz to open a Connecticut Inn. Astaire plays Ted Hanover, Hardy’s former partner and rival in love. And of course there are the girls (Marjorie Reynolds and Virginia Dale), an agent (Walter Abel) and plenty of lavish song and dance routines with spectacular production numbers.

It contains all of your favourite Irving Berlin hit songs, including the first ever film appearance of the Academy Award® winning “White Christmas”.

In order to be one of the three lucky readers who will win a DVD of each film, email win@thevintageguidetolondon.com quoting ‘holiday’ in the subject line and stating your full address. The winners will be picked at random at midday on Friday 26 November 2010. No cash alternative. UK residents only. All entries will be signed up to our newsletter.
