Watch Gish's True Heart Susie at the Cinema Museum
Watch silent classic True Heart Susie (1919), directed by D.W Griffith and starring Lillian Gish.
Susie, a plain young country girl (Lillian Gish), secretly loves her neighbour, William Jenkins (Robert Harron). She believes in him and makes many sacrifices to enable him to go to theological college, all without his knowledge. He becomes a minister and marries “Betty” Hopkins (Clarine Seymour). She soon tires of her boring life with him, and he too becomes disillusioned with the marriage. Susie, meanwhile, realizes that through her own efforts she has made him inaccessible to her.
Piano accompaniment by John Sweeney.
