For vintage frames: Opera Opera Opticians

If you’re after vintage or vintage-style glassed the best place in London is Opera Opera Opticians, one of the last remaining manufacturers of frames in the UK.

Opera Opera, which is conveniently central in Covent Garden, has been around since 1978. While most frame manufacturing is now done in places like China, Opera Opera have stubbornly held on to their own process, and thankfully so!

The shop is stocked with their own extensive range of classic frames – think NHS style, John Lennon frames, Buddy Holly types or cat eyes –  as well as vitage eyewear including big names like Chanel or Dior and European spectacle frames and sunglasses that have mainly been produced by small, family-owned design and manufacturing companies based in France, Italy and Germany.

All their frames are made with genuine rivet hinges and trims, not cheap stick on bits, meaning your frames are going to last. Best off all, Opera Opera is a regular opticians who does eye examinations and sight tests, fits contact lenses and will fit your prescription into any frame. Good bye optical chains, hello Opera Opera!
