Vintage day-trip: experience Art Deco luxury aboard the Orient Express

Vintage day-trip: experience Art Deco luxury aboard the Orient Express

Step on board and into another world – of vintage razzmatazz and Art Deco style. The Orient Express British Pullman train offers a range of  journeys departing from London on the train’s original Art Deco carriages, a must for anyone in love with the Twenties and Thirties.

We absolutely love the regular Golden Age of Travel day trips, often steam hauled, which perfectly evoke the elegance, luxury and glamour of first-class travel in the Twenties and Thirties. The day trip (circling London, you don’t get off) aboard the British Pullman includes a five course lunch, a glass of champagne plus a half bottle of wine per person.

From the moment liveried stewards welcome you to your immaculately appointed carriage, the adventure begins. Stepping aboard the British Pullman is like stepping back in time. For every detail, from regal carpets, woven brass luggage racks and mahogany glass-panelled doors to silken lampshades and velour tapestry armchairs, transports you back to a more gracious age.

While these trips aren’t cheap (£350 for steam hauled, £260 non steam), they are a once in a lifetime must-do. While a luxury 5-course meal might not make you reach for your wallet, temporary time-travel back to the age of Art Deco is absolutely priceless.
