Swing East Festival
Head to the Swing East Festival on Poplar’s Chrisp Street for a day of Swing music, dancing and Forties and Fifties themed entertainment.
Expect the UK’s hottest bands playing a cool and crazy mix of Hepcat Swing, Jumpin’ Rhythm and Blues and Red Hot Boogie. You’ll also find market stalls selling vintage and retro clothes, accessories, music and homewares curated by So Vintage London. Plus a fantastic choice of food from Bite Street food with real ales and cocktails to boot!
A top family day out with face painting and fun for kids, and a selection of vintage cars – free parking in the market for pre-1960s automobiles. So put your cat clothes on and dance, eat, drink and boogie the Sunday away at the East End’s premier Jump and Jive Jamboree!
The event gives a nod to its Poplar location, a true gem of the old East End. Created in 1951 at the height of the Swing movement in Britain, it was built as a ‘living architecture’ element of the 1951 Festival of Britain. It was designed by Frederick Gibbard and was the first pedestrianised shopping centre of its kind in the UK.
