Retro inspired charm at The Painted Lady

The Painted Lady, a quaint little hair and beauty salon on Redchurch Street just off Brick Lane, offers vintage-inspired hair styling for ladies.

The salon is beautifully decked out with vintage arm chairs and  a cocktail bar cum reception desk. There is even Nelson the stuffed fox to keep you company while your hair is pin curled, finger waved or back combed into perfection.

Owner Belinda Hay and her team are lovely and know how to make you feel welcome. Perfect for a pin-up hair do and other glamorous styles.

I have to disagree with this article, im afraid. I went here yesterday and found that the hairdresser didnt even understand basic terms (ever met a hairdresser who didnt know what an ‘inch’ was?) and most especially didnt have any knowledge of vintage styling. I regularly pin curl and i wanted it cut to cater for the curls, but the hairdresser had never heard of a pin curl and looked baffled, and a little scared, at what i was asking for. So i just said id settle for a trim. Bad, bad moves (she cuts 3 times as much as requested). It was £45 so i actually cant go somewhere else, and it will be months of pinning my hair up to cover the disaster that this was.
Obviously, there are bad hairdressers everywhere. But please dont let this place promote itself as a ‘vintage stylist’. im not sure what they are, but they’re not that!

Tina is amazing! she is such a perfectionist and her shellac manicure lasts for ages. The service at the Painted Lady is always extremely friendly and you can relax and enjoy your treatment. Easily the best manicures and pedicures I have ever had!
