For the modernist gentleman: Mendoza Menswear
If you like the razor sharp cuts of early modernist suits or late Sixties-inspired knitwear, then head to Mendoza on East London’s Brick Lane.
The shop specialises in modern and vintage menswear inspired by the Sixties and early Seventies.
Many of the designs are directly based on vintage Sixties pieces – think Chairman Mao suit jackets, candy coloured striped shirts or wool check turpin jackets. Mendoza also stocks a range of accessories such as original Seventies sun glasses as well as suede and leather boots by David Preston.
The clothing is well-made (they offer an additional alteration service for a moderate surcharge) and fairy priced – a pair of check trousers costs as little as £65, a navy blue short cape will set you back £175.
Even if you are a stickler for detail and regardless whether your style is first, second or third generation mod, Mendoza should be a must for anyone interested in Sixties or early Seventies style.
