Meet Forties British film star Jean Kent at the BFI
British actress Jean Kent, who celebrates her 90th birthday this year, will be at the BFI Southbank to introduce a screening of Caravan (1946), a film in which she played the leading lady.
There are plenty of plunging necklines and unbridled melodrama in Caravan, featuting Stewart Granger as an aspiring writer betrothed to Anne Crawford but the evil Sir Francis (a deliciously unwholesome Dennis Price) is determined to come between them. Jean Kent plays the luscious gypsy who falls for Granger, saving him from the baronet’s murderous intentions. Ballet dancer Robert Helpmann gives an unexpectedly fine comic turn as Price’s inept sidekick.
Watch Caravan and meet Jean at what might be her last public appearance.
