Join The Vintage Guide on a special tour taking you back to 1951!
We have teamed up with the lovely Penny Dreadful Vintage boutique to transport you back to 1951 and the original Festival of Britain. From Friday 29 to Sunday 31 July, our twice daily tours of the Southbank – which are part of the big Vintage at Southbank Festival – will evoke the spirit and splendour of the Festival of Britain – dubbed “a tonic for the nation” – exploring its cultural context, architectural grandeur and long-term legacy.
Find out how the festival site would have looked back then, what attractions visitors could have expected, hear anecdotes and personal memories about the Festival and the Southbank site and discover its lasting influence on design and British culture.
The Vintage Tours are free to attend and will run twice daily at 11:00 and 14:30pm. The meeting point is at the riverside entrance to the Royal Festival Hall – next to Foyles. There’s a maximum of 30 people per tour so be an early birdie as the first thirty to come along will get in.
Homes & Antiques Magazine, who have curated a fantastic Fifties living room at The Royal Festival Hall as part of the celebrations of the Festival of Britain, will be sponsoring some great goodie bags for our 14.30 tour on Saturday, 30 July, so come down an join us!
