Head to the Clerkenwell Vintage Fashion Fair this weekend – one of London’s leading vintage events with 50 of the very best dealers in all things vintage from fashion, accessories to textiles, prints and homeware.

This month sees three new menswear traders, English Rose Cosmetics, plus Live Acts in the Tea Room des Artist, on the spot alterations and vintage manicures with Minnie Moons.

Fashion Talk: Norman Hartnell – sixty years of glamour and fashion

Norman Hartnell (1901-1979) was a major fashion personality, world-famous for his glamorous evening clothes.

He created the 1947 wedding gown of Princess Elizabeth and subsequently dressed the young Queen in the Fifties, including her iconic coronation dress. Author Michael Pick will discuss Hartnell’s career, focusing on his unique relationship with royalty.

This event includes a drinks reception and entry to the palace.

Highly regarded in France, Jean Grémillon is less well known internationally than he deserves to be.

A BFI retrospective starting in June, organised in partnership with the Edinburgh International Film Festival, shows that Grémillon’s layered and meticulous films place him among the greatest directors of classical French cinema.

The Vintage Wedding Fair will be the perfect day out if you are considering a vintage-themed wedding. There will be numerous dealers and exhibitors on the day showcasing everything needed for the perfect wedding day such as beautiful dresses, wedding cars, photography and ideas for entertainment.
Expect Forties, Fifties and Sixties inspired wedding gowns alongside vintage dresses, florists and more as well as live entertainment.

At Wilton’s: Four Farces – an evening of Victorian one-act farces

Duelling pistols, cross dressing, thwarted lovers, double-crossing, romance and intoxication are the order of the day when European Arts Company bring their evening of one-act Victorian farces to the grandeur and faded magnificence of Wilton’s (the world’s oldest surviving Grand Music Hall) to provide the perfect backdrop for an evening of short plays, by three of the best farce writers Victorian England had to offer.

There’s more than a hint of Monty Python and The Goons to these hidden farcical gems, which have been touring the UK since April and will continue until July. Written between 1847 & 1860 Box and Cox, A Most Unwarrantable Intrusion (John Madison Morton), Wanted, A Young Lady (William E Suter) and Duel in the Dark written by Joseph Stirling Coyne (co-founder of Punch Magazine) take us back to a nearly forgotten era of theatrical conventions; from direct address, asides and pleading epilogue’s European Arts Company whisks us back over 150 years and invites us to forget our worries for an hour or two.

The show stars celebrated farceur Richard Latham who in a long comic career has worked with Sir Brian Rix in his Whitehall Farces, with Mia Farrow at the RSC, as well as appearing alongside the great Alastair Sim in Sir Ian McKellen’s production of The Clandestine Marriage, other cast members are Asta Parry (Nice Sally at Riverside Studios) and John O’Connor artistic director of European Arts Company.

The audience are of course invited to join in the fun and come wearing their Victorian best. Corsets and bonnets, caps and moustaches, feathers and fans all welcome and greatly encouraged!

One of London’s leading vintage fashion, accessory & textile events is taking place monthly at Old Finsbury Town Hall, showcasing 50 of the finest dealers from all over the globe.

The Clerkenwell Vintage Fashion Fair sells mens and womenswear from the 1800s to the Eighties, plus hosiery, fabrics, buttons, lace, hats, bags, shoes and plenty more.

There is also a tea room, vintage hair and make-up from £5 and an on-the-spot alterations booth.
