Explore living history at Dennis Sever’s House

Dennis Sever’s House just around the corner from Spitalfields Market is one of the most intriguing historical experiences London has to offer.

The house features ten rooms, each furnished and decorated in the style of a particular era from 1724 to 1914. Far more than just a museum, this time capsule really brings each room to life as if its inhabitants had just popped out seconds earlier.

Just toasted bread sits on the breakfast table, fresh oysters are waiting to be eaten, tea – still hot – is ready to be poured, bells chime, beds are unmade – these minute details turn your exploration into a sensuous experience, will make you feel like you are spying on actual peoples’ most intimate and private habits and routines.

While some rooms are overwhelming in their splendour and detail, especially the Victorian parlour and the Neo-classical living room, the house also features the simple, bare quarters of poorer tenants and ends in the year 1914, a somber finale to what simply is a must-do experience for anyone interested in the past.
