Gentlemen who can’t quite afford their very own Jeeves should come along to the Be Your Own Butler workshop by The Merry Bobbins and learn how to maintain their wardrobe. In this three hour workshop you will learn a range of practical skills  with Jo Poole theatrical costumier and The Dress Doctor.

Part 1: Talk on tailoring and the bespoke wardrobe
Demystifying the arcane world of men’s tailoring. Whether you plan on becoming a customer of bespoke tailoring or simply want to know what to look for when buying vintage, the talk will cover:

Why bespoke is best

What marks it out from off-the-peg and high street tailoring

Fitting etiquette and deportment

What your options are and what they mean

How to let your tailor know what you want

Part 2: Antiques Road Show and Tell with Jo!
Bring along an item that means something to you (from any era or any value) to share with your fellow participants and  find out about its materials, composition, care and restoration.

Part 3: Clothes Keeping
Demonstrating age old methods of keeping your wardrobe looking its best, including:

How to iron a shirt correctly

How to hang your clothes

When to wash, when to air or brush

Part 4: Practical Workshop
Participants will be shown and get to practice a range of mending skills, including:

How to sew on a shirt and a coat button

How to catch up a hem

How to deal with emergency rips and tears
