At the BFI Southbank: Jacques Tati season
As an instantly recognisable performer and a visionary filmmaker, Jacques Tati made an indelible mark on screen comedy. The BFI now celebrates his genius throughout October and November.
Though he made only a handful of films, director, writer, and actor Jacques Tati ranks among the most beloved of all cinematic geniuses.
With a background in music hall and mime performance, Tati steadily built an ever-more-ambitious movie career that ultimately raised sight-gag comedy to the level of high art. Highlights in the season will include all his films with an extended run of his masterpiece, Playtime.
Plus: Monday 20 October at Ciné Lumière
Now diligently and wonderfully restored, audiences can once again enjoy Jacques Tati’s masterpiece, Playtime, considered by many as his most daring film. Followed by a Q&A with Jérôme Deschamps, President of Les Films de mon oncle, whose main project was the restoration of Playtime.
